Suburban Sports Group Management Team Adds Two

Gumbel and Welch to provide marketing and communications support

Suburban Sports Group, LLC of Farmington Hills, Michigan, has hired David Gumbel and Courtney Welch. Gumbel will serve as Marketing Coordinator, while Welch will provide support as Communications Manager.

A native of Troy, Mich., Gumbel graduated from Michigan State University in 2004 with a degree in communications. He served as assistant manager for the Onyx – Rochester Ice Arena in addition to his role as a Suburban Hockey Schools instructor for the last year. An All-State hockey player for the University of Detroit Jesuit High School in 1999-2000, he helped U of D make it to the semifinals in 2004-05 as an assistant coach.

Welch, a 2002 graduate of Michigan State with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, is starting her fifth season as Communications Manager of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. She was a student assistant in the MSU Sports Information office from 1998-2002. Welch, a resident of Royal Oak, Mich., also served an internship with USA Hockey Magazine in Colorado Springs, Colo., and writes for Michigan Hockey and Michigan Lacrosse.
