January 18 , 2008 Suburban Sports Group of Farmington Hills, Michigan, has hired Robert Murphy as Director of Sales and Marketing. Murphy, a resident of Novi, Mich., enjoyed the past four and a half seasons with the Plymouth Whalers and Compuware Arena, most recently as their Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Murphy joined Compuware Arena as the Director of Corporate Sales and Marketing in 2003 where he helped expand the organization's corporate partnership program, marketing communications and in-game entertainment model. While with the Whalers, he developed innovative, measurable and high-impact partnerships with leading regional and national companies such as Meijer, BD's Mongolian Barbeque, Hertz, Radio Disney and State Farm Insurance. Murphy also led a front-office team that created the award-winning Catch the Wave creative campaign and launched over 30 new customer sales and service initiatives. Prior to joining the Whalers, Murphy served in a number of key sales, marketing and leadership roles with leading professional service, advertising and publishing organizations, including Spring Arbor Distributors, a $200 million full-service Christian publishing, distribution and retail service solutions company. Murphy holds a BA in Interpersonal and Public Communication from Bowling Green State University and a Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.
