Suburban Sports Group hires new general manager and assistant manager at Novi Ice Arena

Barnes and McCormack diversify staff with unique backgrounds.

Suburban Sports Group, LLC of Farmington Hills, Michigan, has hired Kris Barnes as general manager and Sean McCormack as assistant manager at Novi Ice Arena in Novi, Michigan.

Barnes served as an assistant manager at Novi Ice Arena from 2004-06 before leaving to become the assistant general manager at Stonebridge Golf Club in Ann Arbor, Mich., where he previously worked as an assistant golf course superintendent. He received his Masters in Sports Management from the University of Michigan in April 2003, after receiving his Bachelor of Sports Management & Communication from Michigan in December of 2001. During his time at Michigan, Barnes interned at the university’s Yost Ice Arena and Michigan Stadium, where he was responsible for such things as event management, game-day operations, facility operations and ice maintenance.

McCormack, a 2005 graduate of Michigan State with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, served as a Hockey Operations Assistant for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2005-06 season. He was responsible for video research and development. A resident of Berkley, Mich., McCormack also writes for Michigan Hockey and Michigan Lacrosse.
